Here comes the ComfortSmart Deluxe Camping Cot, a laudable product from Coleman, a company that has outdone themselves each year making camping gear. This camping bed is well-crafted to deliver the closest possible bed-like experience.

Comfort and durability are at the forefront when it comes to the design of this camping cot. You can be assured of your money’s worth if you’ve been thinking of investing in it.

With dimensions of 80 inches in length and 31 inches in width, the ComfortSmart Deluxe cot is a standard oversize camping cot. While the overall design of the cot is quite common, it stands out above the rest thanks to its coil-suspended fabric top and included mattress pad.

It can also be said to belong to the collapsible group of camping cots as it features the unfold-to-use set-up design.

Design and Build of the Cot

Straight out of the box, we were quite intrigued by how different this cot looked as compared to others in the same category. First, the fabric top is coil-suspended allowing for comfy body-contouring support. In fact, your kids might be tempted to use it as a trampoline!

Coil-Suspended fabric

The sleeping deck has a nylon mesh backing to enhance breathability and airflow. An extra-cushioned foam mattress pad is added for more comfort.

However, it is important that we point out that the included pad may be a bit noisy when lying on it. Additionally, unlike with the Byer of Maine’s Trilite Cot, the pad in this particular cot is not held in place by any straps so it may even slide off the cot if you toss and turn during sleep.

Perhaps it is comforting that the cot has a very generous sleeping surface and unmatched stability on the ground. This will have people even taller than 6 feet and 5 inches drifting to slumber without curling up.

To support the luxurious mattress pad and coil-suspended fabric, the cot has an all-steel frame and legs. Actually, the camping cot is sturdy enough to withstand the toughest of outdoor conditions and to support a load capacity of up to 300 pounds. Undoubtedly, this is a portable cot we can unequivocally vouch for when durability comes to question.

What’s more, you will have 15 inches of clearance from the cold ground and away from critters. While higher heights off the ground are great for summer camping since they permit air circulation, we recommend that you use bed sheets that sprawl to the ground at the edges of the cot in winter to prevent heat dissipation.

When the need for that extra storage in your small tent arises, the generous space underneath this cot comes in handy. You shouldn’t have to second guess about where to stash that backpack, those hiking shoes or trekking poles.

Since this is a camping cot, it makes sense that its legs are crafted in a way that they won’t damage your tent-footprint. The tall legs are oblong-shaped with smooth edges at the bottom. If you pitch your tent on firm ground, protection of its footprint is guaranteed.

If you fancy a smaller-sized cot that is similarly designed, we recommend the ComfortSmart Regular Cot which supports a load of up to 275 pounds and has smaller dimensions. Otherwise, the ComfortSmart Deluxe Cot should be your pick-and-go sleeping gear when it comes to backcountry camping, RV boondocking or regular car-camping.

Both cots feature the usually-unpleasant middle bars that dig into your back as you sleep. However, the mattress pads they feature are firm enough to cushion against this effect. For the more than two years we have owned both cots, the firmness of their pad mattresses seems to endure the repeated use. They look like they will take us a few more years before we can replace them.

Portability of the Cot

ComfortSmart Deluxe Cot in a Car Trunk

At a weight of about 20 pounds, the ComfortSmart Deluxe camping cot is relatively lightweight for an oversize cot. However, like any other oversize cot, it will not be suitable for hiking, backpacking or hauling over long distances. If you prefer a backpacking cot, we recommend that you peruse our recommendations of lightweight cots instead. With this particular cot, you will be better placed if you are car-camping.

When bundled up, the structure of this cot is not so small. This means that if you have a limited storage space, you will encounter some trouble. To put this into perspective, the bundled up cot, together with its sleeping mat could not fit into the trunk of our 2013 Mercedes Benz CLA class. But it fits the trunk of anything slightly larger than this. So, if storage space for the cot is of essence to you, you might want to stop a bit about this particular cot.

Setups and Teardowns

The cot is already pre-assembled so you only need to undo the Velcro straps, unfold it and secure the legs in place to use. It has a hinge in the middle that allows for quick unfolding besides serving as feet when in storage.

While unfolding the cot was relatively easy for us, the same can’t be said about its teardown process.

First, you have to remove the mattress pad from the cot and place it aside somewhere. Then, you have to flip the cot upside-down before picking the mattress and tucking it under the bars. Next, squeeze the mattress by folding the legs into place. After all this, you will assume that we are done but shock on you!

The final step is actually the folding of the cot with its sleeping mat tucked under its frame, like you are closing a book. Then, using the Velcro straps provided, fasten up the bundle.

While this otherwise tedious procedure might go unnoticed when one is in the great outdoors, it becomes quite apparent when you’re operating in a small space, say in a 2-person backpacking tent. Besides, the emerging structure is a bulky one and will need a large enough storage space.

Best Applicable Use

Using the ComfortSmart Deluxe Cot

The ComfortSmart Deluxe camping cot is ideal for use in car-accessible recreational spaces such as campgrounds, beaches, open-air festivals and trailhead hotels among others. You can use the cot pretty much anywhere as long as you have some means of transporting it apart from motorcycling and biking.

Arguably, the ComfortSmart Deluxe can be a good add-on for anyone starting out on glamping. In addition, it can be a good pick for anyone looking for a comfortable temporary guest bed.

Conclusion

The crazily lauded Coleman Comfortsmart Deluxe Cot will undoubtedly pique your interest if you are looking for a comfortable camping cot. In essence, this cot brings to the wild your home-like experience.

With its coil-suspended fabric top, a firm pad mattress, tall legs and easy setup procedure, camping enthusiasts could never wish for a better comfort in a cot! To sweeten the deal even more, this cot’s excellent durability will see you enjoy these comfort features for eons.

You may however find it limiting if you hate lengthy foldup procedures, bulky bundles of loads or simply prefer lightweight backpacking cots. Particularly, you will need enough trunk space to transport this cot, in addition to a large storage space to put it away.

I bought one . Using it indoor . I bought a sleeping pad for it . And every time in the morning there is moisture under the sleep pad leaving the fabric a little moist .
