REDCAMP Folding Cot Review

Our Rating:

When it comes to easy teardowns and setups, no camping cot comes close to the Redcamp Folding camping cot. Well, except the Byer of Maine’s Easy Cot.

The Redcamp cot features an unfold-to-use design so you don’t have to worry on where the legs or side poles go. Instead, you can solely focus on enjoying your recreational activity.

Quick Navigation

Which Type of Cot is This?

As the name suggests, the Redcamp Folding cot falls under the category of lightweight, collapsible cots that require no assembly. The camping bed comes pre-assembled thus you only need to unfold to use and collapse it down to pack away.

At only 14.7 pounds, this cot is fairly lightweight. Additionally, it folds down into a compact bundle that measures about 41.3 inches by 9 inches by 6.7 inches.

Design and Build of the Cot

REDCAMP Cot - Overview

Working our way upwards, the Redcamp Folding cot has up to ten supporting legs, which help support a maximum load capacity of about 250 pounds. To ensure firm support devoid of any rocking or slipping, the manufacturer includes non-slip feet on each of the legs.

Additionally, the legs and frame of the cot are made of sturdy, durable steel tubing which is precisely connected to withstand the folding and unfolding actions. The tubing has an elongated circular form factor to enhance the strength of the frame.

And while the legs will prop you off the ground by 15 inches, a perfect height away from crawling critters, sitting on the edges of the cot can do some damage to the supporting legs despite the obvious structural integrity guaranteed by steel.

The fabric cover on top is made of oxford polyester, which has a remarkable 600 denier rating. This is the average denier rating for most cot fabrics but for this particular cot, the fabric is double-layered for extra comfort and durability. The fabric allows for minimal give which offers maximum comfort without unnecessary sagging. Its breathability is commendable and matches well with that of the worthy competitors.

Seemingly rich with the mastery of comfort, REDCAMP does almost everything right to ensure that their cot delivers in that front.

We fell in love with the fact that it has no end bars and is creak-free due to the sleeved-up frame. This improves on the support, comfort and versatility of the camping cot.

Setting the bar even higher, the cot’s headrest is raised by 18° making it act as a pillow.

However, the fact that the headrest is not adjustable and may be a little uneasy to sleep on annoyed quite a number of our testers. This also means that you cannot tag along your comfortable camping pillow as it will be useless with this cot.

The three differently-sized pockets included in the cot will be a nice treat for storage of small items. But as you may know, there are cots whose main marketing rhetoric emphasizes the inclusion of splendid organizers. We listed a few worthy cots with organizers in our main article that lists all the best camping cots in the market.

Portability of the Cot

Portability of the REDCAMP cot
REDCAMP Portability

The overall design of the Redcamp Folding cot promotes portability but more so easy usability. The folding action which typically takes less than a minute makes its packing a breeze. This is definitely a plus for mobility. The cot weighs as much as three Chihuahuas, at only 14.7 pounds, making it considerably lightweight enough to carry around though not for backpacking.

It also comes with a storage pouch to further facilitate the storage and transportation. When you are done using the cot, store it away in the pouch to protect it from dust and other elements.

However, the folded down version is still large and cumbersome to carry around for long distances. You will definitely need a means to move the cot around. We think that it is better reserved for easily accessible recreational facilities such campgrounds.

Setups and Teardowns

Easy to Set up

With the legs and side poles joined together, you only need to unfold the cot to use it. No assembly and tools will be requisite for setup. In fact, it might take you less than a minute to have the bed ready. The teardown process is also just as easy since you only need to fold it back into its compacted form.

A locking mechanism is integrated into the structure to ensure the cot stays steady through its use.

Best Applicable Use

Redcamp cot load capacity
250 lbs. Load

This cot has a large sleeping deck and has no end bars thus making it ideal for kids, adults and even for anyone slightly over six feet tall. The sleeping surface measures 75 inches long by 28 inches wide.

Therefore, you can bring it along for many outdoor activities such as car camping and hunting, as long as they are not too far away. Alternatively, it can also double up as a temporary bed for your sleepover guests as well as for emergency circumstances.

With the sleeping deck being 15 feet off the ground, the cot is extremely effective in heat dissipation thus making it a perfect fit for summer seasons.

However, the cot may take up a huge space and thus may be more ideal for a two-man tent instead of a solo tent.

We cannot emphasize enough how much of a breeze the process is. It is one of those cots that can be operated by literally any adult regardless of their gender or strength.

If not for this reason, you may still want to give it a try owing to its excellent durability and exemplary comfort. Either way, the choice is yours.

I bought one . Using it indoor . I bought a sleeping pad for it . And every time in the morning there is moisture under the sleep pad leaving the fabric a little moist .
